If You Were Raped

What to do if you are raped.

Many people have no idea as to what to do if they are raped. This is due in part because we feel this will never happen to us. All too often, we tend to hide the truth from ourselves, causing unwanted pain and suffering in the long run. There are specific tasks you must do right away.

Please remember to follow the steps listed on this page. These are important steps that must be followed if you are to recover and have any chance of putting your rapist behind bars, and your life back together!

Remember! Of all the violent crimes committed today, rape is the least reported. If we are to have any chance of stopping this crime, reporting it is the best option. Get help and stay strong!

We still have a long way to go with conviction and punishment for the crime of rape; however, you have a much better chance of a conviction as compared to when I was raped.

Do I fight my attacker? This is a question so many ask and so many beat themselves up after the event. All I can say is use your own judgment. The first time I was raped, I fought my attacker off. He still managed to penetrate me and the damage was done but it did not last long. I was able to kick him and the result was him no wanting to continue. I managed to escape before he ejaculated.

The second event, when I was kidnapped, beaten and gang raped, I also fought all four of them. The fight lasted from sometime around 8:30 PM until after 1:00 AM. At 1:00 AM, they started beating me repeatedly, until all my strength and energy was gone. Then they continued to rape me until after 3:00 AM. I have often wondered if the gang rage would have lasted so long had I not fought.

The main thing to remember is whether you resist or submit, you must not place any blame on yourself. Things happen so fast but if, in your judgment you feel it best to submit and reducing the danger you are in, submit. No fight is ever worth your life!

Take the following steps;

1) Do not shower/clean yourself. Your first reaction will be to clean yourself off but in doing so, will remove evidence that can help convict your attacker.

2) Do not change clothes. If you need, take a clean set of clothes with you and go directly to the hospital or the police.

3) Seek medical help This is most important because of possible diseases that can be transmitted from your attacker.

4) The hospital will report this crime to the police and the police will interview you. You must stay strong and do you best to recall everything possible. NOTE: Many rapists will threaten your life if you report them. They are trying to command power over you. After all, that is why they forced themselves on you to begin with, to command power. They are cowards. If they were not, you would not be alive reading this now.

5) Retain counsel to represent you.

6) Seek professional counseling. This is something you must do as soon as possible. Read my 8 step recovery page and contact a professional to guide you through your recovery. The sooner you receive help, the sooner you begin to heal.
